Congratulations to Animation Mentor Class of '08!

This past Saturday I had the honor of attending and presenting at the graduation ceremonies for Classes 5 and 6 of Animation Mentor. It was a lot of fun to meet many of my students in person and hang out with the other mentors, as well as the founders, Bobby, Shawn and Carlos. I got to present the Student Choice Award for Walk Cycle With The Most Personality. You can get a much better description (with photos) on Bobby Beck's Blog. If you haven't already, be sure to check out some of the graduates' work in the latest AM showreel.

Hey, Victor..... I guess this is as good a place as any to post this.....

I followed Elephant's Dream the whole way through, and am currently following the Peach project, and I was just wondering what you think of these kind of things..... Whether "Open Movies" will ever have a place in the world? Whether you think it's feasible to expect that a group of people that are plucked from various places around the globe could come together for ~9 months and create a movie funded entirely by donations......?

Just asking for your thoughts, as you know what it's like to work inside a studio, etc. etc.

Hi Victor, just a random visitor. I was looking for animation tutorials online and somehow got led to your blog. I just wanted to say...neat stuff you've got here! I'm an aspiring animator and looking at the work you have here really inspires me to get better and better. Welp, thats about it I guess. Just wanted to say hi!

Elliot, I don't have any experience with these sorts of productions, and I don't recall if I saw Elephant's Dream or not (perhaps I did, and it just didn't leave a lasting impression). I'm not opposed to the idea of these sorts of tele-collaborations, but ultimately they will only be as compelling as the story they're telling. You will still need a good story and a strong director with a singular vision to pull everything together. It's hard enough to make a good film when everyone's in the same room! The still images of Peach that I've seen look interesting; hopefully the story will hold up!
